Student Support

Financial support allows students to fully immerse themselves in academic study and research, including activities related to the program both within and outside of Osaka University. The Interactive Materials Science Cadet Program provides financial support through the following schemes.

Students admitted in the program are eligible to receive a stipend, regardless of household income. The stipend amount is equivalent to the Doctoral Course (DC) Research Fellowship for Young Scientists provided by the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), and monies are paid in monthly installments. Students are responsible for paying any relevant income and residence taxes. In some cases, students will be required to pay national health and national pension premiums.

Certain scholarships cannot overlap with the program stipend.

(1) Program participants in receipt of scholarship(s) from the Japan Student Services Organization, their own country for overseas study, or the Japanese government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) as a foreign student are ineligible for a program stipend.

(2) Program participants in receipt of a DC Research Fellowship for Young Scientists from the JSPS are ineligible for a program stipend.

(3) Any program participant who has been awarded a program stipend and has full or part-time employment may not receive the program stipend until he or she resigns from that position. However, in addition to the program stipend, program participants are permitted to receive remuneration for work undertaken as either a teaching assistant or a research assistant, providing such work is necessary for carrying out educational or research activities integral to the program. Remuneration may be received a maximum of five hours of such work.

(4) There are no limitations regarding the overlap of the program stipend with exemptions from entrance or tuition fees, deferment of tuition fees, or tuition fee payments by installment.

Expenses for program courses

Expenses for internships as part of the program are paid separately from the program stipend.
