Title: Mott physics on triangular lattices in molecular materials

Abstract: The family of quasi-two-dimensional molecular materials, k-(ET)2X, are model systems for multi-physics of frustration in spin and correlation in charge because they have anisotropic triangular lattices and are situated on the verge of Mott transition. In the seminar, I first talk about the half-filled case, in which the Mott insulators with anisotropic triangular lattices fall into antiferromagnets while those with nearly isotropic triangular lattices host quantum spin liquids. Noticeably, the antiferromagnetic ordering, when irradiated by X-rays, disappears and gapless spin excitations emerge, suggesting a novel role of randomness that brings forth a quantum spin liquid from a classical ordered state. The results shed light on the new notion of the Mott-Anderson insulator, which is an exotic spin-charge separated insulator with fermionic spinons and bosonic chargon glass, as theoretically predicted. I also present experimental evidence for the quantum critical nature of the Mott instability, obtained by investigating the electron transport of three organic systems under continuously controlled pressure. Next I switch to the case of a hole-doped triangular lattice. The resistivity and hole coefficient measurements find a possible quantum phase transition between strongly and weakly correlated regimes, which is proposed to be a generalized Mott transition. I also present experimental signatures suggesting that the highly correlated state at low pressures behaves like a doped spin liquid and the superconductivity emerging at low temperatures crosses over from BEC to BCS regimes by pressure.
